  • Will this programme be available in my country?
  • The programme is being rolled out in ten (10) territories namely, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.


  • How long will this programme last?
  • The Strengthening Second Chance Education Programme (2nd Chance Programme) is a 3-year development initiative. The programme is being implemented from October 2012 - September 2015. It seeks to build a sustainable infrastructure that will allow at risk groups of all interests and abilities to access programmes that may lead to the development of valuable life skills, training/retraining for the world of work, portable certification, and a continuing education platform for future development.


  • What is the difference between CCSLC® and CVQ®?
  • There are several differences between the CCSLC® and CVQ®, however, the major difference is that the CCSLC® equips you with foundation skills for life- long learning and further development, while the CVQ® equips you with industry-approved skills which can be used to earn a living or to further education.


    The CCSLC® and CVQ® are assessed differently, the CCSLC® is assessed by a combination of in-class exercises, projects, group work, presentations and a multiple choice examination, while the CVQ® is assessed by demonstration of competence in a particular discipline according to industry standard.


  • Do I have to complete both the CCSLC® and CVQ® in order to be a part of the programme?
  • For this programme, you may do either the CCSLC® or CVQ®, you do not have to complete both. You may however, use some CVQs to make up the five subjects required for the CCSLC®.


  • Where in my country is this programme being offered?
  • A number of Second Chance Institutions (SCIs) have been selected in each of the territories to participate in the 2nd Chance Programme. The list of SCIs participating under this programme are in the section WHERE TO GO on this website.


  • Can I work while I’m doing the programme?
  • Yes you may.


  • Does the programme have day and night classes?
  • Individual SCIs are left to determine the dates and times that are convenient for them to offer the CCSLC® and CVQ® courses. Interested persons are encouraged to visit their respective SCI for more information on dates and times of programme course offerings.


  • If I’m not between the ages of 16 and 30, can I still do the programme?
  • While the 2nd Chance Programme caters to the 16 - 30 year olds with special characteristics, anyone desirous of pursuing the CCSLC® and/or CVQ® Levels 1 and 2 certifications may do so.


  • Will the programme provide job opportunities?
  • The 2nd Chance Programme provides opportunities for persons to acquire the qualifications and certification necessary to access the world of work. If affords you that second chance!
